Giraffe Cafe at Royal Plaza Hotel

Before I knew that Giraffe’s, a Brazilian Restaurant, was coming to International Drive, we bought a groupon deal for another Giraffe’s…the Giraffe Cafe at Royal Plaza Hotel on Hotel Plaza Boulevard.

On our visit we were told that Giraffe Cafe was undergoing a total renovation. As such, staff had been reduced and the Food and Beverage Manager would be our server in the lobby of the hotel. Interesting, huh? Turns out the service was excellent, as was the food, so fortunately we had a better than expected experience.

I started with the French onion soup.

I noticed a little difference in the soup and the F&B manager asked the chef. Sure enough, the sweetness I tasted was from their addition of Amaretto to the soup. Different but good.

Next we tried the fried shrimp Thai curry sauce.

These shrimp were excellent. The flavor of the sweet Thai curry sauce was amazing. And this appetizer is definitely big enough for sharing.

My entree choice was chicken Marsala.

The mushrooms were fresh, marinated and sautéed to perfection. The Marsala wine sauce was lighter and not as much a “gravy” as I’ve had at some restaurants. Very good and a lot of food. I had enough for leftovers.

The hubs ordered a New York strip.

The flavor of the steak was excellent and perfectly cooked as medium rare. This dish was served with steak fries, asparagus and carrots.

For dessert (even though we were both quite full) I ordered a chocolate lava cake served with vanilla ice cream and strawberries.

Not the best I’ve had but far from the worst.

The hubs enjoyed his tiramisu.
