Marlow’s Tavern

We recently had dinner with my in-laws at a place they had visited and enjoyed, Marlow’s Tavern in Winter Park.  The conversion of the long-standing McDonald’s was well done.

The interior was large and the “play place” area was essentially a “sun room” dining area, which appears to be almost as good as eating al fresco.  There is a bar and two separated dining areas, large enough for big parties and yet the booths made it feel intimate and quiet.

On our visit, the hubs and I decided to share an appetizer and entrée, so, we started with the firecracker shrimp.

These crispy tempura shrimp were served with a “cracklin’ spicy sauce” and sweet chili sauce.

My mother-in-law had the “Infamous” fish tacos.

The warm tortillas contained blackened tilapia, shredded romaine, black bean corn salsa, and was drizzled with a smoked chili cream.

My father-in-law, who always enjoys a good burger, decided to participate in burger month (unknowingly at the time) and ordered a tavern burger.

The classic single burger was (according to the menu) “seasoned perfectly” and was served with a house-made tomato bacon jam.

The burger was cooked “medium” and looked pretty good.

The hubs and I split a prime rib French dip.

The roast prime rib was shaved thin and topped with Swiss cheese, caramelized onions, and mayo and served on a soft Cuban roll.  We ordered jalapeño corn grits as our side.  (I definitely recommend getting these grits, they were fantastic!)

The tot ordered, mac-n-cheese (of course), and opted for a side of fruit (which she also covered with cheese sauce…but hey, at least she ate it.  And really, who can blame her for adding cheese…it’s so good!)

Marlow’s Tavern has several locations, but we visited the Winter Park restaurant located at 1008 S. Orlando Avenue (17-92), Winter Park, FL 32789.  You can follow Marlow’s Tavern on Twitter at @marlowstavern or find them on Facebook at  Their website is

Check them out and let me know what you think!  (I’m guessing from my mother-in-law’s order of the fish tacos on both her visits, that this might be a good option to try!)
